An Homage to Dr. Seuss

Yesterday was Dr. Seuss's birthday, and "Read Across America" as well. Below is my little homage to Dr. Seuss, and a true story of our morning today. Enjoy!

Mommy Rickey woke up, early morning March 3rd,
So many things to do that her memory was blurred.
Get diapers and wipers and food for little Josh,
The bills, vitamin pills and little hands to wash.

With the laundry piled high and Josh screaming for food,
Mama only had time to say, "get up Jacob dude!"
Throwing clothes on both kids and realizing with a start,
Jacob's outfit was part pajamas and not matching the other part.

"Oh well" Mommy Rickey thought, "no one will care"
I mean, kids at daycare? It's not about the fashion they wear.
So fast and so furious they drove off to school,
Well, really not THAT fast - it, of course, is a rule.

Mommy, Jacob and Josh pulled in -- hip hip hooray!
But, alas, Mommy TOTALLY forgot -- Dr. Seuss's Birthday!
Every child was allowed to wear pajamas to school;
How convenient that Jacob's outfit did NOT make him the fool!

Mommy Rickey felt relief. A mommy above all the rest,
Since her hurried outfit choice for Jacob impressed!
"Uh, of course I remembered to let you wear PJs"
She mumbled as she kissed and hugged her little babe.

So, Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! Our family relents,
That we don't always have the time or the clothes that make sense,
But somehow, together, we always pull through,
and have fun "making it work"! We laugh a lot too!

Angela,
Your poem was cool!
And I was surprised.
Such a talent to write
About Seuss and your little guys!

Of your rushing to school
I have not a doubt.
But to write of such things
Where's the time to think it out?

Perhaps with children in bed,
And the laundry all done,(ha!ha!)
The thoughts in your head
Over all else...won!
