Dinosaur Safety

A few months ago, Jacob's class learned about "fire safety." It was a great educational unit for the kids. One week, we counted all the smoke detectors in our house for Jacob's homework. During another week, we drew a map of our fire escape plan from the house for another assignment. On the third week, when asked by the teacher what to do if there's a fire in your house, Jacob responded:

"Get your baby brother from upstairs and get out." Way to go little buddy.

So, we were pretty pleased with the fire safety unit. This month, the class has been studying dinosaurs. One week, the kids played with dinosaur toys and the teacher wrote down each child's favorite dinosaur. Jacob's was T-Rex, of course. The next week, the class did an art project where each child made a dinosaur out of paper bags, coffee filters, "googely eyes" and paint. Jacob made a T-Rex, of course. On the third week, when asked by Mommy and Daddy what he was learning about in school, Jacob responded:

"Dinosaur safety." Hmmm. I wonder what that is?!?

So remember, just be very careful if you are ever in the presence of dinosaurs. You'd better get your baby brother from upstairs and get out!

Daddy-O!

The "O" stands for "Oregon" -- go Ducks! Here's a few photos from Daddy's birthday a couple weeks ago. We had a great weekend:

Golfing with the Westerlinds at an indoor golf course (so sweet!) We all didn't play very well, but we all had a blast wacking at the ball.

A pre-game dinner at Macayo's, one of our favorite mexican food joints. Glenn joined us for the festivities.

We ended the night by cheering on the Oregon Ducks vs. ASU at the football game. If you didn't see the game, Oregon killed the Sun Devils. Bonus: we got to get our photo with the mascot himself!!!
Happy b-day Jon (Daddy)... we love you!

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep...

A true conversation that happened yesterday morning...

Jacob: Mommy, I sleeped really good last night.
Mommy: Oh, good! I'm glad you did.
Jacob: I didn't have any bad dreams.
Mommy: That's great. I'm sure Jesus helped you have sweet dreams.
Jacob: No, Mommy. Jesus doesn't live in this town.
Mommy: Jacob, Jesus is everywhere. He's always here to help us.
Jacob: No, Mommy! He doesn't live in this town! I never see'd him.

Sigh, I wonder what they'll think of that in Sunday school.

Halloween 2008 Conclusion

We ended our weekend festivities with a costume party at Sam and Belinda's house. Otherwise known as:

Dorothy...

and
Napoleon Dynamite.

The kids went also. It was great to be able to get so much use out of the kids costumes!

We had to get some costumes of our own for this shindig. Say hello to:

Edgar Martiez and Mixed Greens With a Side of Dressing (ba-dum tsch!)

We also had a surprise appearance by "Thanksgiving Jon," also known as Steve:

What a fantastic party and a fun-filled weekend!

Halloween 2008 Continued

Here's us on our big evening of "Trick-or-Treating."

Batman and Robin were more than happy to be out and about gathering candy from the neighborhood.

The boys went together as a duo, which was pretty cute to see.

The family was out in full force!

What night would be complete without counting up the candy, and sharing some with a brother?
